mIRC Basics

Most of Drakkar uses mIRC to communicate, so this really is a must.

Download

First go to http://www.mirc.com/

On left of screen click on download then download it from the closest place to where you live.

Once downloaded, install it.

Once installed, double click on the icon to start running the program.

Connect

This is how you get into a room once you've installed MIRC

First you need to get to the right server.

If this window isn't already up, go to File...Select Server. (Alt+E)

Then click on Add

You should see this:

Type some type of name (Drakkar)

Then in IRC server type irc.starlink.org

The port is 6667

Then click Add

Select Drakkar which should now be in your IRC Server list.

Then click on Connect to Server.

You should now see something like this:

Once it Says Welcome to the Internet Relay Network, you are in.

Next you will need to connect to a channel.

Channels

Click on the Channels Folder Icon (Looks like a folder)

To get to a chat channel:

You can either type in the name in the top line and click Join..

OR

If you will use the channel regularly, click Add beside the list

Fill in Channel Slot.

Enter Key or Password if one is needed.

If you want to join that channel every time you log onto mIRC, then check Join on connect.

Select the Channel you want to join and click Join

You should now be in a channel.

Configuration

The mIRC window and the channels windows within it are completely resizeable.

This is how I have mine set up which fits in the lower right hand corner of my screen so I can see it at all times.

If you set the mIRC window to always be on top, you can always see the chats while you play.

You can have several channels open at once.

Many players and guilds have thier own rooms.. Eventually you will get invites to some as you get to know people.

Ask around in game for romms you can join... Once invited, please do not use them to beg or flame.

Temporary rooms are often set up for specific hunts. It isn't a bad practice to get used to setting up temporary rooms when you are hunting with others. Common examles of this are #LORI , #Chipper , #skill and #Upper.
